Margaret Marshall Saunders

Margaret "Marshall" Saunders (1861-1947) was born in Milton, Nova Scotia. In 1882, she began writing at the encouragement of Dr. Theodore Rand and authored several well-received short stories and novelettes. She is best known for her 1894 work "Beautiful Joe," which was the first Canadian book to become World's Bestseller, as well as the first Canadian book to sell over one million copies and to achieve multiple translations.
This collection consists of Saunders' personal papers, such as diaries, correspondence, and photographs, as well as hand written manuscripts of full-length and short stories.
